Highjacked Domain . . .
When a domain name expires there are vultures waiting to snap it up for pennies and sell it back to you for 50 times more that you paid for it.
Either you pay their exorbitant ransom or you register a new domain name redesigning your banner and other details, all costing you.
I Let My Domain Name Expire
And it was all my own fault. I didn’t know you could indicate that you want it to automatically renewed.
I have my domains with Namecheap. From time to time I get emails from other companies wanting me to renew with them. This time I didn’t get any.
In the summer I received an expiration notice for TheTurquoiseTraveler.com and renewed it. In a month I saw a “your domain expired yesterday” notice and thought it was for that domain. I didn’t read it carefully to see it was for NanRinella.com. I was neck deep in writing in my novel and was engrossed in 1952 England. What can I say? No internet then, no websites, no social media, nada. I was half a century away.
Never STOP Posting
And for inexcusable reasons as well I hadn’t posted since 2014. The Cardinal Sin for running a website—stop posting. I had three surgeries in 2014 and a granddaughter. In 2015 I went back to working on my C.S. Lewis Foundation work, and I resolved to get back into shape and tackle my novel of 10 years so far.
J.R.R. Tolkien took 12 years to write The Lord of the Rings. I am not writing the LOTR and it was about time I finished the book or retire to watching TV and eating chocolates and fade into nothingness.
But since I have resolved to “not go gentle into that good night,” to quote Dylan Thomas, I am at long last ‘cooking’ on the novel. More on that in my next posts. So it was time to revitalize my social media presence. I logged on to my site.
Buy Back My Own Domain?
“FOR SALE” greeted me. My heart stopped. When it restarted, I did a search and found some foreign outfit had bought it. After consulting with my web people, I offered $100 for it on their suggestion. “We will take no offer under $500.”
WHAT? No way. This was highway robbery! And I wasn’t biting. I wouldn’t give them a penny. After consulting with Lancia E. Smith who has a great new site, Cultivating the Good, the True & the Beautiful, and a great deal of expertise, and my marketing son, I decided to let NanRinella.com go and registered four new domain names.
New Domain Name
Since my theme is ‘on the wings of eagles’ I registered nanrinella.org. This is my first post on the new site. Also are:
TheTurquoiseTraveler is now incorporated on nanrinella.org
